Capturing several elements of the ecosystem and its rich flora and fauna, artist K.S. Kamesh has created ‘Amalgamation,’ an 80”x 90” canvas that paved the way for a place in the International Artist Grand Prize Competition-2016 to be held as part of Asia’s much-coveted art fair in Taiwan.

This is the second time the Vizag-based artist has been selected for the international contest, and he hopes to do well.

The artist, who works as an art teacher at Bal Bharati Public School, NTPC Simhadri, says he is short of funds to plan an international trip. “Although support comes in the form of work given by Group General Manager of NTPC Simhadri A.K. Samanta, principal of the school M. Padmaja, and a few corporate orders, there is a long way to go,” he says.

More than 4,000 artists from 73 countries registered for the contest and only 110 have been shortlisted for the event.

“It would be a great opportunity to compete in the international forum and add value to my career as I am the only artist who will be representing Andhra Pradesh,” he says.

It took 15 days for Kamesh to complete the artwork which epitomises the colourful bounty of nature. “Rural life and nature have been my source of inspiration throughout my life and I tried to bring out these aspects into the image with acrylics on canvas,” says the artist.

State award

Apart from hosting several exhibitions, the artist was also a recipient of a State award. His artwork finds a place in the Art Revolution Taipei, an international contest organised by the Taiwan International Contemporary Artists Association, for the second time.

“Last year, the theme was about ‘Balanagamma Burrakatha’. I am excited that ‘Amalgamation’ made a similar impact on the organisers. The five-day contest is scheduled to be held from April 21 next year,” says the artist who is known to work on a series of themes.
