The Coker Heavy Gas Oil Hydro Treating (CHT) unit of the Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemical Ltd. (MRPL) has become operational. Its capacity is 6.50 lakh tonnes per year. The Rs.443-crore unit removes contaminants such as organic sulphur, nitrogen, and metal compounds from the vacuum gas oil (VGO) or coker heavy gas oil — the products of crude oil subjected to primary processing.
The secondary processing facility is part of the Phase III project to upgrade and expand the refinery.
According to a release, the VGO was fed to the unit on May 10 and the treated product was routed out on May 11to petroleum fluidized catalytic convertor unit feed tank.
