KCR hints at merger of TRS with Congress: Digvijaya

AICC general secretary Digvijaya Singh has said the TRS president K.Chandrasekhara Rao has indicated that his party would merge with the Congress.

“We are happy that Mr. Chandrasekhara Rao has met AICC chief Sonia Gandhi and the vice-president Rahul Gandhi and has indicated about the merger of TRS with the Congress. The details will be worked out,” Mr Singh told reporters in response to a question outside 10 Janpath in New Delhi on Tuesday after a delegation of former Seemandhra Ministers called on the party chief.

During the meeting, the Seemandhra leaders invited Ms. Gandhi to tour Rayalaseema and Andhra regions to instil a sense of confidence among the people that all was not lost because of the bifurcation issue. The Seemandhra leaders invited Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Ms. Gandhi and Mr. Rahul Gandhi to address public meetings in Rayalaseema and coastal Andhra.

“She (Ms Sonia Gandhi) has agreed and most probably in the month of March, she will tour the State,” Mr. Singh said. He said a workers convention has been planned in Telangana and Seemandhra regions to work out strategy for next Assembly elections.

The AICC general secretary said that very soon, two separate Pradesh Congress Committees, election, campaign and manifesto committees would be constituted.
