The Kozhikode Rural Police has decided to impose several sanctions in four panchayats — Onchiyam, Chorodu, Eramala, and Edacherry — in view of the first anniversary of the murder of Revolutionary Marxist Party leader T.P. Chandrasekharan, which falls on May 4.
One of the plans is to invoke sections 78 and 79 of Kerala Police Act, 2011, as a preventive measure. A decision to this effect was taken on Wednesday at a high-level meeting chaired by Additional Director General of Police (North Zone) N. Shanker Reddy.
T.K. Rajmohan, Superintendent of Police, Kozhikode Rural, said a notice to this effect would be issued on April 27. Such a step will authorise the District Police Chief to issue notifications for prohibiting or regulating individuals from carrying of arms, coercive substance, symbols, placards, posted matters, or offend against normal standards of public morality.

Any demonstration, rally, or assembly should be carried out only at specified places or along specified routes after obtaining permission from the police.
The police will serve notices on political parties and organisations instructing removal of posters with provocative content before April 28. If they fail to do so, the police will remove them on April 29, Mr. Rajmohan said.
