This past week saw another tech show trailer drop, and the Internet has a new favourite aunty

Kiss Me First is Channel 4’s latest series to do with technology. We’ve seen the success of

The Rain ,

Altered Carbon and other sci-fi shows, which depict a sobering future for humankind.

The trailer, which dropped late last week, opens the plot to a lonely girl who befriends a wild child in a virtual reality game, who then takes her down a rabbit hole into a darker realm. What follows is a montage of violence, stress and flashing lights that boggled my mind but still had me leaning in.

The series goes live on June 29 on Netflix, and hopefully, I won’t be looking into an extended episode of

Black Mirror after all this waiting.

 

Pride for bi

In the spirit of LGBTQ month, there have been a lot of compelling tweets circulating the web. Tweets about bisexuality have been the most myth-busting and one tweet over the weekend has been gaining plenty of traction. User @KaitlynMaarie shooed away the misconceptions that bisexual people are “cheaters”, “half gay, half straight”, “going through a phase” and “confused” and saying the orientation is “bisexual” and “valid”.

Social media has been one of the biggest venues for democratic discourse about sexuality and lifestyle, creating virtual support systems for those who’ve seen rejection and even violence for voicing their truths. Validation has never been more important.

Critically yours

Quite frankly, the pre-release hype for Race 3 was overwrought with pictures and videos of people on my timeline donning ‘goggles’ and sitting astride bikes and cars like they were about to make a cameo. While churning out some laughs, these committed posts just don’t compare to Critic Aunty.

Critic Aunty became famous with her hilarious review of Veere Di Wedding , and who wouldn’t love to hear a response to such an out-loud film from an equally loud aunty?

She upped her game with the ‘mind-blasting’ Race 3, and the video has been shared thousands of times over, dubbed in Tamil, in Telugu for accessibility. She starts off with the need for sunglasses in such films and perpetuated the need in her claim that the characters keep repurchasing them after flinging them off in style. After all, “everything is blown to smithereens: logic, plot, cars, clothes”.

Did everyone chuckle at her description of Bobby Deol’s body transformation, like I did? I mean, there’s nothing more life-changing than Bobby Deol’s chest being ‘hurled’ towards you. And what better way to round up the film than her smoking references, where she states no smoking takes place in the film, but she’s sure there was some smoking during the scriptwriting?

Personalities like Critic Aunty become viral because despite the generational gap, she is unfiltered and shares universal opinions, her thoughts are hilarious, relatable but still quite clean of maliciousness — which is what we need these days.
