Facebook's latest move could present a major challenge to existing digital music services like Pandora and iTunes.

Facebook is to launch its own music service in conjunction with streaming music provider Spotify, Forbes magazine reported on Wednesday.

The move, which could be officially unveiled within two weeks, would allow Facebook to fill a major gap in its offerings to members and could present a major challenge to existing digital music services like Pandora and Apple’s iTunes.

Under the reported plan, a Spotify icon would appear on each Facebook member’s profile page. Clicking the icon would activate the Spotify service allowing users to play songs from the service’s massive library and to share them with friends.

According to the report, the service will only be available in countries where Spotify has agreements with the major record labels. The company is said to be close to negotiating a deal that would allow it to begin working in the U.S.
