Energy storage facility in Mexico

Rubenius, an alternative energy company based in the United Arab Emirates, will build a $4-billion storage facility for electricity in northern Mexico, President Felipe Calderon said on December 8.

“This will be the biggest investment of its type in the world,” he said at a news conference on the sidelines of the U.N. climate conference.

The project, which will use sodium sulphide energy storage batteries, will be built in Mexicali, the capital city in the Mexican-border state of Baja California. The facility would create 800 jobs in Mexico. The company aims to make Silicon Valley, a software region in northern California, its main client for the power generated.
