Kudankulam reactor generates power again

It was resynchronised with southern grid after mandatory tests

After completing tests in the past six days to the satisfaction of the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board, the turbine of the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project’s (KKNPP) first reactor that was stopped on October 29 was successfully resynchronised with the southern grid at 4.11 p.m. on Monday.

The turbine, which functioned on expected lines after the mandatory tests, generated 160 MWe of electricity at 4.28 p.m. The quantum of power cascading from the reactor crossed 200 MWe at 4.42 p.m. and 232.25 MWe at 4.55 p.m.

“Performance of the reactor, the turbine and other allied sections are immensely satisfactory,” sources in the KKNPP told
