Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday complained on Twitter that the Pakistani security forces, according to reports, were shelling even the civilian areas on the LOC ahead of the new Union Defence Minister Arun Jaitley's first visit to Jammu and Kashmir. Mr Jaitley is scheduled to visit Ladakh and Kashmir regions on Saturday.

“Significant ceasefire violation in Rajouri & Poonch with reports of some shells having landed in civilian areas. Some livestock loss”, Mr Abdullah tweeted.

“Is it just a coincidence that the Defence Minister is visiting J&K, for his 1st visit, to review the security situation tomorrow?”

One soldier died and five others, including a Major, got injured in two IED blasts on the LOC in Poonch district of Jammu on Thursday. Defence sources maintained both the blasts were triggered by remote control devices by the militants or the Pakistani security forces from across the LOC.

Last fortnight when the BJP leader Narendra Modi was preparing to take oath as Prime Minister of India, one soldier had died in a similar explosion in Akhnoor area of Jammu at a spot where the India Pakistan International Border ends and the LoC starts.
