Manipur Governor Vinod Kumar Duggal submits resignation

Manipur Governor Vinod Kumar Duggal submitted his resignation to President Pranab Mukherjee on Wednesday afternoon. He is the ninth governor to tender resignation after the Modi government took charge.

Mr. Duggal was appointed Manipur Governor on December 23, 2013. Recently, Mr. Duggal was directed to hold charge of Mizoram. There has been no prior indication that Mr. Duggal may resign.

He has been camping in Delhi for the last 8 days. He is expected to return to Imphal on Friday.

As a result, Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh is likely to postpone his visits to South Korea and Indonesia, beginning from August 31, to attend conferences on tourism and information technology.

P.B. Acharya, the Governor of Nagaland is likely to hold additional charge of Manipur.
