A day after the issue of separatist Masarat Alam’s release by the Jammu and Kashmir government rocked Parliament, a delegation of BJP leaders and Ministers from the State met party president Amit Shah here on Tuesday.
Amid speculation on whether the newly formed BJP-PDP coalition would be able to tide over the crisis, the leaders, led by Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh, apprised Mr. Shah of the ground situation and pointed out that the proposal to release Mr. Alam was not brought to the State Cabinet. The delegation had met Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed to protest the decision before it came to Delhi.
The delegation informed Mr. Shah of the stand of the party’s State unit on issues and told him that the leaders had urged Mr. Sayeed not to take unilateral decisions. They stressed the need for consultation and discussion.

With Parliament in session, the BJP has been hard-pressed to explain the unilateral decisions of the Mufti, and the party as well as Prime Minister Narendra Modi have indicated that they are not in favour of them.
