The Special Additional and District Sessions Court (Marad cases) trying the murder of Revolutionary Marxist Party (RMP) leader T.P. Chandrasekharan, on Monday rejected the plea moved by CPI (M) Panur area committee member P. K. Kunhanandan and Shijith alias Annan, both accused in the case, against the order of DGP (Prisons) shifting them to Kozhikode District Jail from Central Prison, Kannur. However Special Judge R. Narayana Pisharadi criticised the jail authorities’ decision to shift Shijith and Kunhanandan, the sixth and the 13th accused to the Kozhikode Jail without the permission of the trial court.
Even the court ruled not to shift them back to Kannur Central Prison at this juncture. Alexander Jacob, DGP (Prisons), on April 8 issued order to shift both the accused lodged in Kannur Central Prison citing security reasons and hardships faced by the jail officials and police personnel in taking them to and fro between Kannur.
The court also observed that it had the power to cancel the order of DGP Prisons, but it refrained from it.

The order of the DGP without seeking permission from the trial court was against the directive of the Supreme Court.
The court also asked the Kozhikode jail authorities to provide facilities allowed for the accused.Previously the accused had moved a petition in the court against the order of the DGP (Prisons) citing that they had been denied special Ayurveda treatment and food at Kozhikode Jail, which they had been provided at the Kannur Central Prison.

In a related development, the court also ordered the mobile phone companies to submit the call detail reports (CDR) of the mobile phones used by K. K. Praseeth, T. P. Rameshan, T. P. Maneesh Kumar and Prakasan, the first, second, third and 48th prosecution witnesses respectively, to the court by May 15.
