The former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee had visited the country’s technology giant Infosys campus in Bengaluru on January 19, 2001, and said, “IT parks and campuses of software companies such as Infosys are the new temples of modern India”.
Mr. Vajpyee had recalled how Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru had described factories and dams as “temples of modern India” to underscore their importance in nation building.
During the 45-minute visit to the Infosys campus, Mr. Vajpayee had said, “Coming to Infosys City is like coming to a temple, but temple of a different kind. In today’s new-age economy, I think that new temples of modem-day India are the IT parks and campuses of software company like Infosys.”

Commending the success story of Infosys, Mr. Vajpayee had said, “Companies like Infosys and several others in Bengaluru have proved that it is possible to create great success stories while working in India.
“I see a happy confluence of Saraswati, Lakshmi, and Shakti. The new economy is driven by knowledge. It is a producer of wealth and prosperity. So much so that Lakshmi seems to have a soft spot for software companies. However, beyond being a miracle of the mind and the market, IT is also a source of great strength for our nation.”
