Mumbai: Of the five people injured in the road overbridge collapse at Andheri, Dwarkaprasad Sharma, Girdhari Singh and Asmita Katkar fell on the tracks. The fourth, Manoj Mehta, was injured by falling debris while waiting for a Dahanu-bound train on platform no. 8. Haresh Koli, the fifth victim, was hurt when he fell on the tracks on platform no. 1.
Residents of Rajasthan, Mr. Sharma and Mr. Singh work as security guards for a private firm in Andheri. They were headed to work when the overbridge collapsed under them. The duo shares a small room near Criticare Hospital in Juhu and walk to work. Mr. Sharma, who suffered injuries to both legs, said, “We left at 7.15 a.m. as usual. Who knew this would happen? I’m thankful there were no trains approaching.”
He added, “I remember falling on the tracks on my legs. And then I could not move even a bit. I saw my friend trapped in debris but I couldn’t help him.” Mr. Sharma said many onlookers had gathered but none came to their help immediately. Mr Singh, who is admitted to the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) has suffered two severe fractures to his left hand and has abdominal trauma.

Versova resident Haresh Koli, an accounting professional, came to know of the bridge collapse after reaching the station. Doctors said Mr. Koli’s left hand is badly injured. “He has soft tissue and vascular injuries. He was operated upon,” said Dr. Pratibha Badole, assistant medical officer, Cooper Hospital. Mr Koli works in the accounts department of a private firm in Santacruz, and travels to work from Andheri station around 8.15 a.m.
