Five youngsters were killed when the car in which they were travelling rammed into a BMTC bus on Kanakapura road on Saturday evening. The car, coming from Kanakapura towards Bangalore, collided head-on with the bus that was proceeding towards a village near Somanahalli. All the five, aged between 20 to 25, were returning from a lunch party at an eatery near Kanakapura. The deceased have been identified as Syed Ayub Pasha, Yarab Abbas, Yasir Khan, Mayur Sharma and Mohammed Junaid.
Some ten friends, all from Bangalore, got into two cars to celebrate their last trip together as Yasir was heading to Saudi Arabia for the Haj pilgrimage, while Mayur was soon to get married. While one car was trailing behind, the car driven by Yasir met with the accident.
Preliminary investigations suggest that a tyre burst may have caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle and it rammed into the bus. However, police are yet to confirm it.

Police officials, who visited the spot, said: “It took a long time for the police to remove the bodies from the crushed car that had gone under the bus”.
Following the accident, which took place around 4.10 p.m., traffic on Kanakapura road was held up for a while as the police were trying to extricate the bodies from the car. A case has been booked under Section 279 and 304 of the IPC at the Talaghattapura police station. “Initial investigations suggest that there is no mistake on the part of the BMTC driver and the driver of the car lost control of the vehicle,” said a police official.
The police later brought the bodies to Rajarajeshwari Hospital on Mysore Road.

Meanwhile, grief stricken relatives and friends of the five victims gathered outside the mortuary of the hospital in large numbers. Many found it difficult to identify the bodies. Amidst shock and disbelief, Thoufiq Ahmed Shariff, cousin of Yasir, said Yasir was set to depart for Haj on September 30. “He called his father from Kanakapura in the afternoon and said they would return soon. The tragedy has devastated the entire family,” he said. Yasir also aspired to go abroad later to set up his own business. “The family was planning a farewell before his departure abroad. But, this turned out to be a farewell of another kind,” he said.
