Pizzas and more

The Big Fat Lulu’s offers many choices and they have won all the awards for their pizzas and are the undoubted leaders when it comes to the art of pizza making.

Deepak Datwani and Monika Batra have not rested on their success and have moved to a nice new vintage bistro called The Big Fat Lulu’s at Cross Point Mall.

My undying love for pizzas takes me to places across the city and more. But when I settle down in my hometown, the only place which helps me to satisfy the cravings is Fat Lulu’s in Gurgaon. They have won all the awards for their pizzas and are the undoubted leaders when it comes to the art of pizza making.

What has impressed me the most is that its owners Deepak Datwani and Monika Batra have not rested on their success and have moved to a nice new vintage bistro called The Big Fat Lulu’s at Cross Point Mall. This time it’s more than just pizzas. I really admire their culinary head Raminder Bakshi who in last couple of years has really turned around couple of restaurants and come up with menus which people just love to indulge in.

I entered with high expectations and straight away started with a tomato basil chicken stew. Subtle flavours with a nice tinge of tomato served along a perfectly toasted bread. Further I had another healthy dish which was a detox salad before indulging in some high calorie food. Dried cranberry gave a nice punch to the refreshing salad. Baked artichokes and crostini trio were impressive and again full on the health quotient.

But sitting in an Italian restaurant without a pasta or risotto on the table is a crime for me. The chef did a penne in wasabi sauce which was a nice attempt, having mild taste but missed on the much needed kick of wasabi. Meatballs in spaghetti were done in plum and tomato sauce which didn’t go well with me. I like my spaghetti in tomato only due to the tanginess of the tomato, which got balanced by the use of plum.

Kilo meat beef burger tempted me a lot but I kept my date with the burger for some other day. For the time being sliders were good enough but disappointed me with the bun quality, while the minute steak in ciabatta was just perfect. In mains blackened smoked chicken was something I just loved. I topped it with barbecue jus and enjoyed the dish which I would love to have as my last meal of my life.

Sausage lovers should try their cheese filled chicken variant which just melts in mouth and refrain from the lamb sausage which was rubbery and chewy.

Done with all, I would suggest to grab hold of any of their pizzas and sign off for the day.
