Bite-sized crisp cheese unglis, oozing cheese, potato and green peas; masala vada pav, bursting with the spicy-tangy dry garlic chutney so famous in Maharashtra; a cooling ice gola; and pulpy fruit crush. These are some of the snacks on offer at Goli Vada Pav.
The Mumbai-based vegetarian snacks’ chain has three outlets in Coimbatore — Hope College, R.S. Puram and Saibaba Colony.
They offer 10 varieties of vada pav, including mix veg and aloo tikki, with easy-on-the-pocket prices.

They start at Rs. 25 for a classic and go up to Rs. 40 for cheese and makka palak vada pav.
Little wonder, college students troop in with purpose into the small outlet from where emanates the heady smell of something delicious being fried.
But, first things first. The eating. We sample three varieties of vada pav, each one very different.

The pav is fresh, sourced locally, while the vadas come pre-packed from the factory. They are stored in the deep freeze in every outlet and fried fresh.
Then there is sabudana vada (Rs. 30), and it is time to check out the much-admired Maharashtrian delicacy. I expect to taste something studded with fried groundnut, but this one’s more basic. Just a golden-fried patty of sabudana spiked with chilli and fresh coriander.
All of them are served with a regular tomato sauce. If you wish to make it more interesting, ask for mayonnaise dip (Rs. 10) or the Schezwan sauce (Rs. 10).
They’ve recently introduced a soya vada pav. Every vada pav comes in three versions — mayonnaise, Schezwan and cheese; that makes it 30 varieties to choose from!
The Hope College outlet, run by Shindu Priya, also stocks varieties of kulfis, ice gola and fruit crushes.
