Flower tells players to stay hungry or 'drop out'

September 19, 2011 04:08 pm | Updated 04:08 pm IST - London

England coach Andy Flower has warned his top cricket players that they may lose their places to new players unless they stay hungry for success.

“If people aren’t hungry enough, then I don’t think they’ll keep up with the side – they’ll drop out or be dropped out,” said Flower.

Flower hailed debutant John Bairstow, who made an unbeaten 41 off 21 against India in the fifth and the final ODI, and said it was the best international debut he had ever witnessed.

“He played with amazing composure. Not many people can strike the ball as cleanly as that or are that talented. I liked the blend of boundary hitting,” he said.
