Kings XI Punjab co-owner Preity Zinta expressed happiness over picking seamer Mohit Sharma at Rs.6.5 crore. But she admitted that her team’s resources were stretched during the IPL auction here on Saturday.

“I think we were made to (stretch our budget), we needed a fast bowler, who could bowl at the death. Sometimes (other) franchises push up the price, sometimes it is intentional, sometimes it is unintentional. We wanted Mohit,” Ms. Zinta said.

Asked about writing to the Punjab Cricket Association about her unhappiness about Mohali as the home-venue, Zinta denied it outright and said: “For the record I have not written any letter.”

When questions continued about issues affecting Mohali, the IPL chairman Rajeev Shukla stepped in and said: “In the IPL Governing Council meeting, we have already taken a decision, the franchise has to play a minimum of four games at their centre (home-ground). The remaining three, they can play at other venues.”
