Shivnarine Chanderpaul is excited about playing his 150th Test from Thursday.

After a practice session here on Tuesday he said: “It’s not every day that someone gets to play 150 Tests; it is a milestone for me and I am looking forward to it. I never thought I would get this far. Sachin (Tendulkar) will be playing his 200th Test, and it will be an honour to be part of it. Sachin was in good nick against us in 1994. We did not know where to bowl to him.”

Excerpts:

Batting order: I have been batting at five over the years. We have young Bravo (Darren) who has done well at No. 3. We have Marlon Samuels who has done well at No. 4 and I have been batting at No. 5 for long. So my position is okay. We just need to bat a little longer.

Unconventional stance: As a cricketer you do whatever makes you comfortable when you step onto the park.

Chances of playing 200 Tests: It takes a lot of work. As an individual you have to pick yourself up to go to the nets, do a lot of work, practise the way you want to bat in the game. There are so many things you have to do; keeping fit and everything it takes to get on the park and get your work done. And, also maintain a standard you think will help you succeed at the highest level.

Second behind Brian Lara by 1,015 runs in Test career: It would be good to get there, but it will take a lot of work. One thousand runs might not look a lot, but sometimes they can be a lot. If I get there I will be happy.

Tendulkar’s 200th Test: It’s a privilege to be here to watch Sachin play his 200th Test. We have watched him over the years and played against him. It is also a joy to look at him bat. There is so much to learn from a legend like him. He is a master of batting.
