Considering the monopoly status the Board of Control for Cricket in India has over the game and to ensure its institutional integrity, N. Srinivasan must be made ineligible to hold any post in it for two to five years, Harish Salve, senior counsel for the Cricket Association of Bihar (CAB), submitted before the Supreme Court on Tuesday.
Making his submissions before a Bench of Justices T.S. Thakur and Ibrahim Kalifulla, Mr. Salve said: “The facts surely disclose that the malaise of betting, fixing and corruption in the BCCI and of taking no effective action by it are attributable to a large extent to the conflict of interest which Mr. Srinivasan has created.”
“If Meiyappan was leaking information and someone else was putting bet then it is like insider trading,” the Bench said.

When Justice Thakur asked Mr. Salve how any action could be taken against Mr. Srinivasan when the Mudgal committee had found nothing adverse against him, Mr. Salve said he should be removed for his ‘cover-up’ operation to protect his son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan. “It [Mudgal report] discloses violation of rules and the anti-corruption code by Mr. Meiyappan on account of betting and passing insider information to bookies,” he said.
