Stephen Fleming’s pat for Ashish Nehra

Chennai Super Kings fast bowler Ashish Nehra received praise from coach Stephen Fleming, who stated the pacer could continue to play a vital role in the team’s IPL campaign.

Nehra, who missed 11 matches due to injury, marked his comeback with a fine spell (three for 33) in CSK’s facile win over Royal Challengers Bangalore on Saturday.

“We are delighted. He does not have a huge army of fans, people often criticise him. But within our camp, he has been excellent. If he is available for the play-offs and the final, his presence will count,” Fleming said.

“He brings a lot of experience. Sometimes, people miss that and judge him purely on performances.

“The two wickets (A.B. de Villiers and Virat Kohli) he took today were crucial. He saved us around 20 to 30 runs,” he said.

Fleming stated that this win will get the team in the right frame of mind before the playoffs.

RCB leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, meanwhile, said that the bowlers have continued to err in the death overs, which he thinks is one of key reasons for the side’s poor run.
