July 22, 2014 07:08 pm | Updated November 16, 2021 05:33 pm IST - London:

The ICC-appointed judicial commissioner Gordon Lewis A.M. will hold the hearing of James Anderson through a video-conference on August 1. This was decided after a preliminary hearing here on Tuesday, that was attended by the legal teams representing Anderson, ECB and the BCCI.

The England fast bowler is alleged to have pushed Ravindra Jadeja during the first Test at Trent Bridge and the Indian team has pressed charges for a Level 3 violation of the ICC code of conduct.

According to an ICC pressrelease, “The judicial commissioner also explained that the hearing will be conducted in accordance with Article 5.2 of the ICC code of conduct for players and player support personnel. At the end of the hearing on 1 August, the judicial commissioner, as per article 5.2.12 of the ICC code of conduct for players and player support personnel, will have 48 hours to announce his decision in writing with reasons. If required, he will also decide on the sanctions to be imposed, date from when the suspension(s) will be enforced and the process for right of appeal as per Article 8.”

ICC also stated that, “If the judicial commissioner finds the player not guilty of the offence with which he has been charged, then it remains open to him, at his discretion, to find the player guilty of an offence of a lower level than that with which he has been charged.”

Boon to hear Jadeja

Meanwhile, the ICC has confirmed that match referee David Boon will hold the hearing of Jadeja. This follows the ECB's counter-charge of a Level 2 offence against the Indian all-rounder. The date and details of the Jadeja-hearing will be specified later.
