H.R. Srinivasan, vice-chairman and managing director, Take Solutions, said: “Twenty20 is an exciting format. The competition will provide an opportunity for cricketers from the State to showcase their talent. This will also be a feeder tournament for the TNPL. We are very pleased to be associated with the TNCA.”

The tournament is named after the late Ashok Kumbhat, who served as the treasurer and then secretary of the TNCA. His brother Shanti Kumbhat said, “it has been a great gesture by the TNCA and its president N. Srinivasan to name the tournament after my late elder brother.” U. Prabhakar Rao, vice-president, TNCA, presented a memento to Shanti Kumbhat.

The 12 teams of the first-division will be divided into two groups of six sides each.
