Ishant is the future of Indian bowling: Ganguly

Published - November 14, 2009 04:23 pm IST - Kolkata

Ishant Sharma has received strong backing from his KKR captain Saurav Ganguly.

Pacer Ishant Sharma might have struggled to get his rhythm in the just-concluded series against Australia but former India captain Sourav Ganguly said the Delhi pacer is the future of Indian bowling.

“Ishant had one or two bad games but that’s going to happen in India where you play on flat wickets and fast outfield. It’s hard work for the bowlers. He is learning, he is just 20 years old. He will have periods where he will not pick wickets for India, which has happened to everyone,” Ganguly said.

“Hopefully, he will learn from it and come back as a better bowler. He has got lots of talent and he is going to be the future of Indian bowling in next seven-eight years,” said the KKR captain about Ishant who plays for the team.

About Ishant’s performance in the second edition of IPL, Ganguly said, “He was not too happy last time for whatever reasons. I think Ishant can answer it best.”

Ganguly said Ishant still remains their main bowler for IPL-III to be held from March 12-April 25.

“Ishant is still one of KKR’s main bowlers, looking at him to deliver for us this year. We will try and create an atmosphere for him where he is comfortable and delivers for us. We should make sure that he blossoms.”
