LARGE-SCALE ATM DEPLOYMENT
CMS Info Systems has won a contract from State Bank of India (SBI) to deploy more than 7,850 automated teller machines (ATMs) across the country. This is the single largest deployment contract awarded by any bank in the country, valued at over Rs. 4.5 billion, and will include Total Implementation Services, ATM installation, maintenance and support for a seven-year period, a release from CMS stated. The ATMs installed will be those manufactured by Korean company Nautilus Hyosung, a global provider of banking automation and self-service solutions. Rajiv Kaul, CEO of CMS Info Systems, said, in a release: “In executing what is possibly the single largest ATM deployment in the world, we shall leverage our deeply entrenched cash management network over 2,500 towns and experience in project management, to significantly improve access, uptime, and quality of service for the bank’s customers.”

SAP India announced that it has inked a pact with Native Lead Foundation (NLF), a non-profit organisation that works in south Tamil Nadu, to promote innovation and instil a spirit of entrepreneurship in students graduating from engineering colleges. Under this programme, SAP will work with 20 engineering colleges to educate students on entrepreneurship with a vision to create quality indigenous innovations, a release from SAP stated. Employees from SAP Labs India recently conducted workshops in engineering colleges. Mathew Thomas, Vice-President – Strategic Industries, SAP India, said the programme would focus on innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship.
CLOUD COMPUTING CONFERENCE
IEEE Cloud Computing, an initiative of the technology professionals body, held its second international conference here last week. The three-day IEEE Cloud Computing for Emerging Markets Conference provided a platform for key stakeholders involved in the Indian Cloud ecosystem to discuss the innovations, challenges and opportunities for the emerging Indian Cloud computing markets.

The event started with S. Gopalakrishnan, Executive Vice-Chairman, Infosys, unveiling a White Paper on ‘Roadmap for cloud computing innovation in India’. He said the government must support use of cloud in e-governance, making regulations to promote cloud and taking leadership in cloud-related standards and policies. “Also, academics should include cloud in the curriculum, as cloud computing is the way computing will be in the future.”
