Sony PlayStation India has launched the first of its kind ever, a ‘gully' cricket game that goes by the name ‘Street Cricket Champions'. Developed for the PSP and PS2, Street Cricket is created to provide unadulterated free-style street cricket, bound to take you across an array of world class environments. Priced at Rs. 499 for the PS2 and Rs. 699 for the PSP, Street Cricket is now available at retail stores across the country.

Created in association with Mumbai-based game developers Trine Game Studios, Street Cricket Champions sports a unique graphics engine and visual style that lets you roam the gullies in 10 fascinating environments that are both distinct and fun to play in. You even get a chance to show off your over-the-top trick moves in the three unique game modes — Quick Play, Knock Out and IPL of Indian streets mode. Using the multiplayer option on PS2, you can even make a team of 5 and compete against 10 international teams worldwide, from a school to a slum; from Kolkata to the Caribbeans. One has a plethora of options while choosing local or international environments.

The game enables players to experience street cricket in its entirety through various tricks and non-traditional cricket shots wherein you can be a fast bowler or a spinner in a single over. The rules are simple; you hit or break anything in your way and it adds up to your score. The game also sports speciagl trick shots, so if you want to smack the ball over the keeper's head like Dougie Marillier, you can do that as well.

“After the success of the first two locally developed games, Hanuman Boy Warrior and Desi Adda, we are extremely proud to introduce Street Cricket Champions, essentially targeted at the Indian public. Street Cricket Champions is a prime example of our continuous commitment to the Indian gaming market in providing international quality games with localised themes. The game design is a riot of entertainment while combining spectacular graphics with great game play. With Cricket being India's most passionate and popular game, we are sure the Street Cricket Champions will be a major success in the Indian market,” says Atindriya Bose, Country Manager India, Sony Computer Entertainment.

It's interesting to note that there's a fair amount of indigenous content being developed in the country, with Sony on the forefront of the Indian content movement. Who knows, maybe in the near future, we'll get to see some quality Playstation 3 content developed entirely in India.
