Mega science fair gets underway in Bangalore

A five-day mega science fair, aimed at generating and promoting interests of students in science through real-time experiences, commenced here today.

The event has been organised by IBM in partnership with Agastya Foundation and is supported by Sarva Siksha Abhyan.

The fair aims to encourage students from grade fifth to eighth standards to perform experiments and explore the utility of science in everyday life, IBM said in a statement.

Over 50,000 school children are expected to participate in the event.

Question and Answer sessions with prominent scientists and luminaries would also be held and hands-on/low-cost model-making would be encouraged during the fair.

IBM Research Director, India, Manish Gupta, said the science fair would enable children to go beyond books, use their imagination and knowledge of science and bring it alive in a manner relevant to their lives.
