As many as 2,000 delegates, including scientists, researchers and students, are expected to participate in the 25th Kerala Science Congress (KSC) to be held at the Technopark here from January 28 to February 1.
The congress, based on the theme ‘Science Education and Research,’ includes a series of lectures on various aspects of science. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will inaugurate the event on January 29, Executive Vice President of the Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE) and president of the KSC V.N. Rajasekharan Pillai told the media here on Thursday.
R.K. Sinha, chairman, Atomic Energy Commission; Jayanth Narlikar, astrophysicist; K.M. Chandrasekhar, Vice Chairman, Kerala State Planning Board; M.S. Valiathan, cardiac surgeon and medical scientist, and K. Krishnamoorthy, Director, Space Physics Laboratory are among those scheduled to deliver lectures.

K. Dharmalingam, DBT Distinguished Professor; D. Balasubramoniam, molecular biologist; Narasimhaiengar Mukunda, theoretical physicist; Sabu Thomas, polymer scientist, and B. Meenakumari, Director, Central Institute of Fisheries Technology, will also address the delegates.
A public lecture on ‘Creativity in Science and Literature’ will be delivered by poet and lyricist O.N.V Kurup.
A day-long session on ‘Mathematical Sciences’ and a special session on ‘Science Education and Communication in Malayalam’ are other attractions of this year’s KSC.

Felicitation
Prof. Pillai said the KSC would provide a platform for felicitating young achievers in science and technology. Winners of the Children’s Science Congress and the Kerala State Young Scientist awards would be honoured and given an opportunity to present their projects.
He said the KSC would have a special session for analysing the prospects and reviewing the previous editions of the event. Former heads of the scientific establishment would debate a report on the impact of the KSC in the last three to five years.
A week-long national science exhibition titled Sastra Jalakam is being organised on the Kanakakunnu palace grounds from January 28 to February 3 as part of the KSC. Research organisations, science and technology institutions and industrial houses are expected to participate. The expo would also host a Students Science Exhibition and People’s Science Pavilion.
KSC chairman A.E. Muthunayagam said the congress was expected to add to the tempo achieved in the promotion of science in Kerala.
