J&K police launch operation to destroy banned crops

The Jammu and Kashmir Police has launched a massive operation in four districts to destroy banned crops like cannabis and poppy. “A joint team of the Narcotic Control Bureau and the J&K police has launched the operation in Pulwama, Anantnag, Shopian and Kulgam districts on May 22 and the destruction of the illicit crops continue in full swing”, a police spokesman said here today.

The move was taken after it came to the notice of the government that cultivation of these narcotic crops are on rise in remote areas of south Kashmir. The spokesman said the operation will be completed within the next 14 days.
