The bilateral initiative between India and South Korea in the field of science got a boost with the setting up of Indo-Korea Science and Technology Centre on the campus of the Indian Institute of Science here on Wednesday.
The centre, which is jointly initiated by the Korea Institute of Science and Technology and the Indian Institute of Science to work together on many globally important issues, was inaugurated by the former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.
Addressing scientists from both the countries on the occasion, he said the centre would become an important place for leveraging the strengths of the two countries to address global challenges. Initially the centre would concentrate on solar thermal energy research. He suggested that the centre focus on innovative technologies such as developing efficient solar thermal systems; using convergence of different high-end technologies for developing thinking spacecraft among other things; developing bio-inspired aerospace system with nanotechnology.
