Well-deserved

Sachin Tendulkar more than deserved the Bharat Ratna, and our thanks to the government for honouring a sportsperson of such great talent and unbeatable achievements. Sachin reached Himalayan heights with his sheer talent and hard work. It is also a fact that he remained humble. He will certainly be missed.

The Bharat Ratna for Tendulkar is a fitting tribute to his contribution to cricket. His genial demeanour, humility and non-controversial nature, unaffected by fame and money, make him the most lovable persona across sporting disciplines in India.

The highest civilian award for Dr. C.N.R. Rao and Tendulkar is a moment of pride for all Indians. It shows that there is always recognition for relentless hard work and efforts to uplift society. Congratulations to both.

I have admired Sachin a lot, on and off the cricket field. But no individual is above the law of the land. The government should not change the rules to accommodate an individual. Nominating Sachin to the Rajya Sabha and giving him the country’s highest civilian award will certainly give rise to many questions.
