Remembering Borlaug

As a farmer from Nannilam in Tiruvarur, Tamil Nadu, I hope the media do not forget the birth centenary of the legendary Dr. Norman Borlaug, Nobel laureate and the father of India's Green Revolution, which falls on March 25. I still remember the days, in the early 1960s, when India was importing foodgrain to feed its millions. He was largely instrumental in transforming the state of agriculture in the subcontinent. Though he was given a Padma award, perhaps we must now honour him again with the Bharat Ratna; there is a precedent of it having been conferred on a foreign national — Nelson Mandela. The government should release a commemorative postage stamp as well.
