Cash-for-vote

There is no doubt that awareness programme is needed to increase the voting percentage in elections to cent per cent. It is the duty of every citizen to use his right to vote. On the other hand, sincere efforts should be taken to stop totally the nasty habit of distribution of money to voters by political parties. The candidates, who vociferously uphold the principle of self-respect, hurt the self-respect of voters by the despicable act of bribing them. Those who are supposed to be guardians of law wilfully perform this illegal act of distributing money to helpless voters in many innovative, clandestine ways. Democracy has been converted into a huge unethical business. Something should be done to uphold the real spirit of democracy

Telephone bill

BSNL has abruptly discontinued sending telephone bill to its landline subscribers in the name of going green, without any prior notification. For March 2019, I am yet to know the amount of bill payable and the last date for payment. SMS alert and voice call reminder on bill payment have also ceased, putting the subscribers to hardship. Dispensing with paper billing may be an appreciable step, yet it cannot be introduced overnight. Every customer cannot be expected to have online payment facility or feel comfortable with it. BSNL is obliged to retain the conventional printed bill system to those subscribers who opt for it.
