Political indeed

Airlifting the critically ill young woman, gang raped in Delhi recently, to a Singapore hospital was, undoubtedly, a political decision made by the UPA government, which perhaps feared the consequences of the victim’s health deteriorating further. It seems to have taken the decision to thwart the wave of public anger. There are, I am sure, equally eminent doctors in India.

The government’s decision to airlift the rape victim with multi-organ dysfunction harbouring active infection — which makes her unfit for possible intestinal transplant in the next few weeks — is questionable. We boast of world class medical facilities and attract lakhs of patients from neighbouring countries. Is the government admitting that we do not have good medical facilities? It is an insult to the medical fraternity and hospitals in the country.
