Overdue

The news that DGCA has suspended the licence of Kingfisher Airlines comes as no surprise. The action was long overdue. Although Kingfisher’s finances have been poor for quite some time, it was the management’s lackadaisical approach that proved to be the last straw on the camel’s back. With the patience of employees ending, the DGCA had to bring down its hammer with a loud thud.

Vijay Mallya, the owner of Kingfisher Airlines, is largely to blame for reducing an airline that was India’s second largest until a year ago to the present state. FDI and investment sentiments should not be a ground for postponing harsh decisions to recover the dues from Kingfisher. One hopes there will be no more extravaganza in the name of Kingfisher calendar.
