Nehru’s legacy

June 03, 2014 01:23 am | Updated April 21, 2017 06:01 pm IST

It is most unfortunate that Jawaharlal Nehru’s 50th death anniversary went unnoticed in the backdrop of the BJP’s massive victory (June 2). If one has to marvel at the passage of democracy all these years with the seamless transfer of power from one general election to another, one has to thank Nehru for it. Even if socialism has been eclipsed by globalisation today, his contributions to world peace, non-alignment and progress are second to none in the 20th century.
