Modi & Rahul

T.M. Krishna has shared the anguish of many among us who cannot understand the media’s obsession with Narendra Modi and Rahul Gandhi (“India can do better than Modi or Rahul,” April 22). The well-dressed middle class is completely sold on Gujarat’s selective development, equates dictatorship with strong leadership and conveniently skirts the question why Mr. Modi could neither anticipate nor prevent the organised violence that swept Gujarat in 2002.

On the other hand, for all the propping up of Rahul from within his party, he has shown no evidence of inclination or ability to don the mantle of Prime Minister. The Congress leaders would do well to throw their weight behind someone with experience and confidence.

Seeing is believing. Gujarat is prospering for all to see. What is wrong in accepting it? Mr. Krishna could have analysed the concept and policies behind Gujarat’s development and their relevance and application to the rest of the country. Instead, he is looking for Mr. Modi’s apology on deadwood politics. Even courts have not found anything against Mr. Modi and his people have reposed their faith in him repeatedly. Will Mr. Modi’s development model turn relevant if he offers an apology for 2002?
