Defence Minister A.K. Antony graciously took the first step to resolve the tension caused by the leakage of Army Chief General V.K. Singh's letter to the Prime Minister, by resisting the mounting pressure on him to remove the Army Chief. It's now the General's turn to reciprocate. Yes, some action needs to be taken on matters raised by Gen. Singh but not in the television studios, for god's sake. The media should learn a lesson or two from the episode. Shocking headlines like “Country is in danger, arms and bombs are finished” may increase their TRPs but do no good to the nation. The letter might have revealed some un-preparedness but it does not mean the nation is in danger.

The contents of Gen. Singh's leaked letter will prove detrimental to our nation in the long run as it contains the details of the deficiencies in the army, which is projected as one of the best in the world. Defence and Home are two important Ministries which require strong leaders. Besides being clean, the Defence Minister should be quick in taking strict, timely action. The latest incidents have proved that Mr. Antony does not even know what is going on in the Army. Both he and the General should resign.
