Logic to crimes?

January 07, 2013 01:11 am | Updated 01:11 am IST

The comment by Vibha Rao, chairperson of the Chhattisgarh Women’s Commission, that women are equally responsible for crimes against them is unfortunate. Ms Rao’s views have come as a whiff of fresh air at a time when men and male chauvinism are being held responsible for sexual offences.

Had the statement — that women are equally to blame — come from a man, all hell would have broken loose. Let us hope the import of Ms Rao’s statement sinks in the minds of parents who let their daughters dress in a manner that attracts men.
