Kudankulam mishap

>The mishap at the Kudankulam nuclear power plant (May 15) only goes to show that safety is not foolproof there. Why were contract labourers made to check the valve in preference to trained KKNPP employees? Is this a case of the lives of contract labourers being considered less valuable than those of department personnel? The lack of transparency after the accident is disconcerting. The hint that the KKNPP’s hospital was possibly unable to handle even cases of burns — as the labourers were shifted to a private hospital — makes the situation even more alarming. There is no point in downplaying the mishap. The government must come out with a full report as the plant is in a region where there are valuable resources.
