Korean crisis

April 09, 2013 01:40 am | Updated 04:30 am IST

This refers to the tensions being built up by the young North Korean dictator, Kim Jong-un with the United States and South Korea (“ >Yellow Sea, red herring? ” April 4). While his father calibrated the threats in return for specific concessions, the young Kim’s threats are not so. His fanciful notion of decapitating the U.S. or South Korea by raining nuclear missiles on them has an extremely low, if not zero, probability. On the other hand, if he indeed triggers a war, the humanitarian consequences would be unimaginable for his own people.
