Judges’ selection

September 14, 2013 05:28 am | Updated December 04, 2021 11:19 pm IST

Justice K. Chandru has rightly argued that differences based on nativity should not enter the judiciary (“A judgment in poor taste,” Sept. 12). Educational qualifications, experience and merit alone should be considered for the selection of judges.

I am not against the use of Tamil (regional language) in the Madras High Court at Chennai and its Bench at Madurai. But the agony is, the demand has become vocal among a majority of young advocates who seem to have trouble presenting their submission in English. This is also a reason behind the opposition to judges from other States.
