IQ tests

March 12, 2013 01:19 am | Updated 01:19 am IST

This refers to the article “Finding the genius outside mensa” (March 11). Many parents wrongly relate the IQ of their wards with their scholastic achievement in schools. I am yet to see a parent or teacher who believes in the adequacy of IQ tests as an evaluation mechanism. The education system today is a combination of adult Narcissism and the deeply deluding notion that we as a society know what is good for our children. We don’t. And the sooner we recognise that, the easier it will be to bring in fresh perspectives.
