This refers to the article “Finding the genius outside mensa” (March 11). Many parents wrongly relate the IQ of their wards with their scholastic achievement in schools. It should be understood that labelling of children as dull, average and intelligent is based on IQ tests which hardly recognise and appreciate their unique skills, abilities and knowledge.

I am yet to see a parent or teacher who believes in the adequacy of IQ tests as an evaluation mechanism. The education system today is a combination of adult Narcissism and the deeply deluding notion that we as a society know what is good for our children. We don’t. And the sooner we recognise that, the easier it will be to bring in fresh perspectives.
