The article “The rise of America’s ‘BRICS’” (Nov. 12) was quite impressive. What did not find mention however was the support of liberal whites who contributed in no small measure to the victory of the rainbow coalition President Obama was able to build. It was the white liberals who helped Lyndon Johnson (back in 1960s) in a large measure to achieve path-breaking victories in his legislative programmes not only on civil rights but in enacting laws to help the poor and the aged as well.
