For marital bliss

December 06, 2011 12:14 am | Updated 12:14 am IST

With reference to the article “You too will become a mother-in-law” (Open Page, Dec. 4) on happy and stress-free married life for newly married couples, I wish to add some more points. Undoubtedly, when a girl meets and adjusts with the people of her husband's family, her responsibility towards that home increases. But the role of the husband cannot be overlooked. He should understand his responsibility and duty towards his wife and help her in every possible way while she adjusts herself to the new environment.

If any family cannot support the needs of a working daughter -in-law, they must state that in the matrimonial advertisements. Now most wives have jobs and there is a limit to the physical exertion they can afford. Parents should teach their children how to share the burdens of a family rather than pamper them post-marriage.
