For emancipation

June 28, 2013 12:57 am | Updated December 04, 2021 11:38 pm IST

Jyoti Punwani has succinctly traced the history of the partially-successful legal struggle of Muslim women against regressive Muslim bodies inclined toward subjugation of Muslim women (“Putting faith in the secular courts”, Op-Ed, June 27). It is heartening to note that many a progressive Muslim women’s organisation has emerged in our country to carry on this saga of emancipation. The petition of Badar Sayeed in the Madras High Court is one such effort, which should be supported by the silent majority of Muslims who do want to usher in a change.
