Disgraceful

It is a matter of disgrace that Karnataka Minister Laxman Savadi was caught watching pornography on his mobile phone when the Legislative Assembly was in session. That the Women and Child Welfare Minister, C.C. Patil, also took part in the act is ironical. They should not only resign but also be barred from contesting elections.

The extent to which the proceedings of the House have deteriorated is shocking. Equally shocking is the quality of leaders we elect to lead us. Shame on you, Mr. Savadi, and your colleagues who were also caught enjoying the clip. Mr. Savadi perhaps wanted a break from the ‘stale and drab' proceedings. Couldn't he have done what he did in the privacy of his house? Our country is the largest functioning democracy. It can surely be spared such mortification.

What a shameless episode in the history of democratic India! Nothing better can be expected from our politicians. It is we, the people, who are to blame as we don't know whom to vote for. Of what use if fighting for anything after electing such candidates? I hope people of the States going to the polls will see not the symbol but the character of the candidates they vote for.

Cell phones are not allowed in the Assembly. One wonders how Mr. Savadi carried it in. Watching porn is illegal. It is the people who have voted for them who need to feel embarrassed.

Mr. Savadi, Mr. Patil and J. Krishna Palemar should be barred from holding any political post. One wonders what their behaviour towards girls and women is like. Stringent action should be taken against them.

Although people do not expect their representatives to be saints, persons indulging in such ugly and vulgar behaviour should not be tolerated.

A child decided to follow the path of truth after watching the play of Satyawadi Raja Harishchandra. The child was Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. But today, we see films and television serials which are full of crime and sex. They have led to the degeneration of society. Our leaders and Ministers are not immune to this either.
