Dikshit’s formula

February 27, 2013 12:34 am | Updated October 04, 2013 07:33 am IST

A huge controversy has erupted over the reported remark of Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit (who says she was misunderstood) that people should cut down power consumption if they cannot afford the high tariff. I do not know what the noise is all about. There is a severe shortage of power everywhere. There is nothing wrong in a Chief Minister suggesting that people reduce the use of electricity. That said, the BJP and the Aam Aadmi Party have a point when they say if corruption is eliminated, consumers can get electricity at a cheaper rate. Maybe, and I wish they are right.

What are we to do if the government, following Ms Dikshit’s logic, asks us to skip a meal or two to beat the rise in food prices?
