Crusader Dabholkar

I thank The Hindu for keeping a social crusader like Narendra Dabholkar alive in the hearts and minds of people (“ >Dabholkar, dissent and democracy ,” Aug. 20). It is only through inspiring articles that one can hope to enlighten and educate the people. It is hoped that from the ashes of those who die for a noble cause will rise a new breed that will take the vision of progressive campaigners forward.

That crusaders have to pay with their lives in their fight against social evils is disheartening. Why does society treat them so cruelly? Because it is about business. Thousands take advantage of superstitious people. Men and women take the help of superstitions to deal with life’s uncertainties, starting with rain. It is for the likes of Dabholkar to save us, the gullible, from charlatans.
